Daniel Fox Stars in the 200 as Christopher Newport Track & Field Concludes VMI Invitational

Final Results

LEXINGTON, Va. --
Daniel Fox climbed up the program's all-time charts in the 200 while leading the Christopher Newport track & field teams to another solid showing on the final day of the VMI Invitational at the Corps Physical Training Facility in Lexington, Virginia.

In the 200, Fox led all Division III competitors with a time of 22.33. Not only did that performance establish a new indoor PR for the third-year star, but it also vaulted him to sixth on the school's all-time performance list.

Equally impressive in the 60, Fox just missed matching his personal-best after crossing the line in 6.95. That marked the top effort by a Division III runner at the meet and placed him fifth overall on Saturday.

On the women's side, Sydney Trussell established a pair of PRs in the sprints. She finished the 200 in 26.00 and the 400 in 1:01.23. Both of those clockings also ranked first among Division III competitors during the meet.

Christopher Newport also recorded three other top-five finishes during the prestigious competition. In the women's mile, Eliza Dana was third in 5:29.17, while Mae Savoie came in fourth in 5:34.60. Meanwhile, for the men, Jack Armel added the third-best clearance in the pole vault after eclipsing 4.35 meters.

Among other top finishers on Saturday, Gage Elliott was eighth in the long jump with a personal-best effort of 6.58 meters. Luke Tompkins also came in eighth in the men's mile (4:32.50), while Libby Miles matched that finish in the women's 3000 (11:39.02).

Rounding out the women's leaders, Alyssa Roach set a new PR in the long jump with a 5.59-meter leap. That just missed placing her in the top-10 in program history, but it still established a new Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference record, topping the 5.49-meter mark set by Frostburg State's Alexis Bush in 2015. Casey Yenyo also contributed a top-10 finish in the 800 after coming in ninth overall in 2:37.32.

For the men, Perry Spring led the Captains in the 400 (52.77), Cooper Albright was the squad's top finisher in the 800 (2:02.57), and Luke Hawkins added a PR in the 3000 (9:07.59). Meanwhile, in the throws, Tyler Palmer was eighth overall in the shot put after unleashing a 13.26-meter heave.

Christopher Newport will return to action on January 20 when the Captains head to Virginia Beach for the start of the two-day Marlin Invitational.
