FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- For the third time this season,
Seth Morris was celebrated as the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week after starring for the Christopher Newport track & field program at the 60th Annual Colonial Relays in Williamsburg.
Along with his latest honor, Morris was previously recognized on December 8 and March 30. In his career, the third-year standout has now received the weekly accolade five times after also picking up a pair of honors during his sophomore campaign.
Morris hauled in his most recent award after another historic appearance last week. Competing at the prestigious Colonial Relays, the Glen Allen, Virginia native was especially impressive in the shot put on Friday. Establishing a new outdoor PR, he uncorked a 15.81-meter heave. That eclipsed his previous spring standard by over four inches and vaulted him to third on the program's all-time performance list.
In addition to placing him among the finest throwers in Christopher Newport history, Morris' launch also bumped him to 25th on the current national leaderboard. It also marked the top effort in the league this year by over two feet.
Along with his work in the shot put, Morris also unloaded a 51.02-meter missile in the hammer throw on Thursday evening. That fell just shy of his league-best distance of 53.06 meters, which he established at the Blue & Silver Challenge on March 28.
Coupled with his nationally-ranked performance in the shot put, Morris also stands 41st in the NCAA in the hammer throw.
Prior to his award-winning outdoor efforts, Morris was equally impressive during the indoor campaign. Over the winter, he picked up All-Region plaudits in both the shot put and weight throw. He also won the league title in both events and was recognized as the conference's Field Athlete of the Meet for his championship showcase.
Morris and the rest of his teammates will return to action on April 10 with the start of the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic in Lynchburg, Virginia.
