Five Captains Pick Up VaSID All-State Men's Track & Field Honors

RICHMOND, Va. -- Five members of the Christopher Newport men's track & field program secured All-State accolades, including Leo Brennan and Seth Morris, who were celebrated by the Virginia Sports Information Directors for their individual work during both the indoor and outdoor seasons.

Headlining the group, Morris was a first-team selection in the throws during the outdoor campaign and a second-team pick for his performance during the indoor season. Meanwhile, Brennan hauled in a pair of second-team accolades in the jumps after starring in the winter and spring.

Rounding out the award-winners, Dylan Filipowicz was honored in the outdoor throws, while Sam Anania was celebrated in the decathlon, and Jahi Jemison earned recognition in the heptathlon. All three were second-team selections.

Previously, Morris earned a pair of All-State honors last year, while Brennan and Jemison were first-team picks in 2025. Meanwhile, Anania and Filipowicz were recognized for the first time after piecing together decorated debut campaigns.

Starring in the long jump throughout the year, Brennan qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the event after setting a new personal-best with a 7.19-meter distance at the South Region Final Qualifier. He also captured the conference title at the winter competition with a 7.10-meter effort, which established a new championship meet record. Meanwhile, in the spring, he won the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference crown in the triple jump and ranked 45th in the country in the long jump after hauling in All-League nods with a 7.11-meter performance.

Stockpiling awards for his work, Morris walked away with four conference championships during his junior campaign after winning league titles in the weight throw and hammer throw as well as the indoor and outdoor shot put. For that performance, he was named the Men's Field Athlete of the Meet at both the indoor and outdoor championships. An All-Region honoree in all four disciplines, he also climbed to second on the program's all-time performance list with a 16.45-meter launch in the indoor shot put and a 55.83-meter missile in the hammer.

Bursting onto the scene with an electric freshman season, Anania picked up All-Region honors in the heptathlon, decathlon, and outdoor pole vault. Although he shined throughout the year, his finest performance came in the decathlon during the spring. At the Mount Union Final Qualifier, he recorded a score of 5,607, which marked the fourth-highest total in program history. Along the way, he established a new personal-best with a 4.57-meter clearance in the pole vault, which also launched him to sixth on the school's all-time charts.

Orchestrating one of the finest freshman years in program history, Filipowicz qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the javelin after establishing himself as one of the nation's top performers in the event. During the spring, he posted a season-best mark of 61.25 meters at the New Captains Classic, which marked the second-longest throw in school history and the finest effort since 1977. An All-Conference and All-Region honoree, he won the league championship with a 56.53-meter missile in May.

One of the South's top stars in the combined events, Jemison picked up All-Region citations in both the heptathlon and decathlon during an award-winning sophomore season. Especially dominant in the heptathlon, he notched a new personal-best in the event with a score of 4,324 at the Patriot Games. That marked the second-best showing in school history and earned him the league's Field Athlete of the Week Award. Later, he also netted a PR in the decathlon with 5,377 points at the New Captains Classic and earned All-League accolades in the 60-hurdles.
