NEW ORLEANS -- After excelling both in and out of the classroom, Christopher Newport standouts Seth Morris and Daniel Young were named to the USTFCCCA National All-Academic Team, while both the men's and women's track & field programs were recognized for their collective efforts during the 2025-26 campaign.

Morris and Young both received the prestigious honor for the second straight year. The national recognition is bestowed upon student-athletes who posted a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 while ranking in the top-50 nationally in at least one individual event.

Along with the individual honorees, both the men's and women's teams were also recognized by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The women earned the Academic Team Award for the 17th time since 2008, while the men hauled in the honor for the second straight season.

To qualify for the Team Award, programs must have a cumulative GPA of 3.1 or higher.

Orchestrating one of the most dominant seasons by a thrower in program history, Morris won four Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference crowns after capturing the weight throw and hammer throw as well as the indoor and outdoor shot put. For those efforts, he was named the Men's Field Athlete of the Meet at both the C2C Indoor and Outdoor Championships.

A four-time All-Region selection as well, Morris ended the year ranked second in program history in both the hammer and indoor shot put. In the latter event, he established a new career-best with a 16.45-meter launch at the Holiday Open. Then, in the hammer, he capped off the outdoor season with a 55.83-meter missile at the Mount Union Final Qualifier.

Eventually, the Glen Allen, Virginia native wrapped up the year ranked 33rd nationally in the indoor shot put and 41st in the hammer.

Concluding his career as one of the top standouts in the shot put in program history, Young established a new school record in the event with a 16.48-meter launch at the South Regional Final Qualifier during the winter. That also marked the longest throw in the region and vaulted him to 29th on the national leaderboard. Then, in the spring, he climbed to third on the program's all-time outdoor charts with a 16.10-meter toss at the New Captains Classic.

Stockpiling awards for his work, Young eventually earned All-Conference and All-Region honors in both the indoor and outdoor shot put. Remarkably consistent throughout the year, he placed either first or second in 10 of his appearances in the shot put, including the final eight meets of the season.

In his career, the Leesburg, Virginia native amassed four All-Region accolades and six All-Conference citations for his work in the shot put.

Along with their athletic achievements, Morris and Young were both Academic All-Conference and All-District selections for their scholarly endeavors during the 2025-26 campaign as well.
