LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Christopher Newport track & field teams will hit the road this week for a trip to the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic, which begins on Friday at Lynchburg's Shellenberger Field & Dr. Jack M. Toms Track.
Friday's action opens with the women's hammer throw at 11 a.m., while track disciplines begin with the women's 1500 at 5 p.m. Saturday gets underway with the men's discus at 10 a.m.

Currently, 71 Captains are scheduled to take part in at least one event this week. Of those with the busiest schedules,
Bailey Billger and
Ellie Nuckols are both entered in four individual events on the women's side, while
Jahi Jemison has an equally packed slate for the men.
Along with CNU, 18 other colleges will have representatives at the meet, including programs from all three levels of the NCAA in addition to fellow Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference member Mary Washington.
So far this season, Christopher Newport boasts four standouts who rank among the top-50 nationally in at least one event.
Ashley Eley is 26th in the women's triple jump (11.25 meters) and 27th in the high jump (1.62 meters), while
Seth Morris is 25th in the men's shot put (15.81 meters) and 41st in the hammer (53.06 meters).
In addition to the multi-event stars,
Ellie Nuckols is ninth in the country in the women's 400-hurdles (1:02.05), and
Sarah Dake is 40th in the women's 10,000 (38:02.67).
Equally impressive, CNU features the conference's top mark in eight different disciplines. Along with the nationally-ranked stars,
Trent Snyder leads the way in the men's pole vault (4.47 meters),
Kayla Asprey sits atop the charts in the women's shot put (12.14 meters), and
Rylee Ehrett ranks first in the women's hammer (44.01 meters).
Meanwhile,
Matt Ryan,
Miles Allen,
Dylan Defoor, and
Tyler Obaugh joined forces on the league's fastest time in the 4x100-relay after finishing in 43.28 at the Blue & Silver Challenge last month.
After this week's meet, Christopher Newport will return home for the New Captains Classic beginning on April 17 at TowneBank Stadium.
