FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- After leading Christopher Newport to both team titles at the indoor league meet last month,
Tyler Wingard and his assistants swept the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Coaching Staff or the Year Awards, which were announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
The Captains earned the women's award for the fifth straight year and the eighth time since CNU joined the league in 2014. Meanwhile, Christopher Newport also secured the men's accolade for the eighth time since entering the conference.
Wingard was recognized alongside an impressive collection of assistant coaches, including
Daulton Teaford,
Taylor Frenia, and
Micheal Hanks.
During the winter, Christopher Newport swept the team championships at the indoor league meet. In the final standings, the Captains captured the women's title by 29 points, while the men outdistanced the runner-up by 20. The 2026 title was the sixth straight crown for the women, while the men returned to the top of the league after just missing out in 2025.
On an individual level, CNU claimed eight titles during the conference competition. Showing the well-rounded nature of the team and coaches, Christopher Newport won four crowns in throwing events, two in vertical disciplines, and one apiece on the track and in horizontal jumps.
Headlining the action,
Seth Morris and
Rylee Ehrett were recognized as the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Field Athletes of the Meet after sweeping the shot put and weight throw titles.
In addition to CNU's remarkable work on the league level, 19 Captains earned All-Region accolades. Among them,
Daniel Young ranked first in the South in the shot put after setting a new school record with a 16.48-meter effort, while
Ellie Nuckols stood atop the region in the pentathlon with a score of 3,501.
Nuckols' performance over the winter eventually culminated in All-American honors after she placed 15th in the pentathlon at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Leo Brennan also earned a spot at the national meet after ranking 19th in the country in the men's long jump.
