WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Adding a final punctuation mark to a historic run by the Christopher Newport track & field teams at the 60th Annual Colonial Relays, freshman
Trent Snyder jumped up the program's all-time leaderboard in the pole vault while starring on the final day of the prestigious competition at William & Mary's Zable Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
During the meet, Snyder established a new personal-best while eclipsing 4.47 meters in the pole vault. That marked the seventh-highest clearance in school history and the finest showing by a Captain in three years. Eventually, the first-year phenom placed seventh in Saturday's star-studded field, which included nine Division I competitors.
Along with Snyder,
Sam Anania came in 14th in the pole vault after topping 4.02 meters.
In addition to the pole vaulters, a pair of throwers also shined on Saturday.
Henry Hunt led all Division III performers in the men's discus with a 43.25-meter launch. Meanwhile,
Kayla Asprey placed 12th in the women's shot put after uncorking a 10.79-meter heave.
Saturday's stars capped off an incredible three-day stretch for CNU. Along with Snyder's work in the pole vault, eight other Captains posted historic marks during the meet. Kicking things off,
Ben Varner climbed to seventh in school history in the men's hammer with a 51.88-meter toss on Thursday.
Continuing the domination by the throwers on Friday,
Seth Morris moved to third on the program's all-time charts in the men's shot put (15.81 meters), while
Charlie Anania and
Sadie Forde jumped to 10th in CNU lore in the javelin. Anania fired a 48.91-meter missile on the men's side, while Forde set a new PR with a 30.67-meter throw for the women.
Meanwhile, on the track,
Sarah Dake threw down the school's third-fastest time in the women's 10,000 (38:02.67), while
Clayton Rankin added the fifth-fastest clocking in the men's race (31:47.47). Additionally,
Ellie Nuckols posted the program's fifth-finest effort in the women's 400-hurdles (1:02.50), and
Sarah Bland broke into the top-10 on the all-time charts in the women's 3000-steeplechase (11:41.38).
Christopher Newport will look to continue its roll next weekend when the Captains head to the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic beginning on Friday in Lynchburg, Virginia.
