LYNCHBURG, Va. -- On the opening day of the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic, the Christopher Newport track & field teams stockpiled historic efforts in throwing events and distance races as the Captains wrapped up a successful Friday at Lynchburg's Shellenberger Field & Dr. Jack M. Toms Track.

Headlining the action, Rylee Ehrett posted the second-longest hammer throw in school history. During the competition, the third-year star uncorked a 47.72-meter missile. That shattered her previous PR by nine feet. It also placed her second at the meet and first among Division III throwers.

Three men also added historic efforts in throwing events, including two in the javelin. During that discipline, Dylan Filipowicz placed second overall with a 53.58-meter launch, which marked the fifth-longest toss in program history. Meanwhile, Charlie Anania climbed to seventh on the all-time charts after coming in fourth with a 51.88-meter effort.

Equally impressive in the hammer throw, Jeremiah Field finished fifth while setting a new personal-best with a 48.28-meter heave. That bumped him to 10th in school history.

On the track, Sarah Dake lept to fourth on Christopher Newport's all-time performance list in the 5000 after completing the race in 17:49.71. With that showcase, she sliced 19 seconds off her old PR and became only the seventh Captain to break 18 minutes in the event. Eventually, she finished second overall and first among Division III runners.

Making his debut in the 10,000, Andrew Janetsky also added his name to the history books. The sophomore standout finished first in the field after crossing the line in 32:04.03. That marked the seventh-fastest clocking in program lore.

In addition to the historic performers, the Captains also swept the 1500 on Friday. In the men's race, Evan Young broke the four-minute mark for the first time in his career after completing the competition in 3:59.69. Meanwhile, Didi Dasilva captured the women's event after cutting four seconds off her previous PR with a time of 5:04.88.

In other distance events, Clayton Rankin posted CNU's top time in the men's 5000 after crossing in 15:35.65, which placed him 11th in the star-studded invitational section of the race. Additionally, on the women's side, Lena Blagg was fifth in the 10,000 (41:27.54), and Sarah Bland finished 11th in the mile (5:22.15).

Among other top competitors for the women, Ellie Nuckols was fourth in the long jump (5.21 meters), while Lily Knowles and Sadie Forde posted identical fifth-place finishes in their events. Lily Knowles shined in the pole vault after eclipsing 2.90 meters, while Forde excelled in the javelin with a 29.67-meter launch.

For the men, Leo Brennan also contributed a fifth-place showing after landing a distance of 6.80 meters in the long jump, while Trent Snyder was eighth in the pole vault after topping 4.40 meters.

Rounding out Friday's finest performers, Christopher Newport notched a pair of top-five efforts in the 4x400-relay. For the women, Danielle Hollington, Bailey Billger, Sydney Chipperfield, and Katelyn White came in fourth with a time of 4:10.10. Meanwhile, the men's crew of Eli Wilson, Kevin Farnsworth, Marshall Mattison, and Miles Allen was fifth in 3:24.50.

The Captains will return to action on Saturday with the final day of the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic. Events begin with the men's discus at 10 a.m.
