Final Results
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Putting together a pair of historic efforts in the 5000,
Samantha Dickerson and
Joseph Lightbody guided the Christopher Newport track & field teams to a solid outdoor debut on Saturday during William & Mary's Tribe Invitational at Zable Stadium.
In the women's 5000, Dickerson placed fourth in the field, and first among Division III competitors, with a time of 18:34.97. That clocking ranks eighth on the program's all-time performance list. Meanwhile, on the men's side, Lightbody finished the race in 15:10.67. That also led all Division III entrants on Saturday and bumped him to ninth in program history.
Along with the headliners, two other Captains registered top-10 efforts in the 5000.
Kathryn Wilson was seventh in the women's race (18:59.85), while
Peyton Artz was eighth among the men (15:11.24).
In other events on Saturday,
Abby Snyder came in second in the women's 3000-steeplechase (12:14.57), while
Kaitlynn Beaulieu finished third (12:39.92). Among other top-five finishers,
Carter Giles was third in the men's 400 (53.72), and
Monica Lannen matched that finish in the women's 800 (2:20.22).
Rounding out the team-leaders during the meet,
Ahmed Elzamzami finished seventh in the men's 800 (2:08.86), and
Alexander Bukovich was the squad's top finisher in the 1500 after crossing the line in 4:22.08.
In the 4x400-relay, Beaulieu, Lannen,
Kellie Hyde, and
Shannon Woods came in second in the women's event (4:22.26), while Bukovich, Elzamzami, Giles, and
Daniel Cretney were third in the men's discipline (3:41.67).
Christopher Newport will return to action on March 24 when the Captains travel to Lynchburg, Virginia for the Dr. Jack Toms Invitational.
