FREDERICKSBURG, Va. --
Headlining an impressive day of action on Friday, Seth Morris claimed a pair of individual titles, while the Christopher Newport track & field teams combined to win five total events on the opening day of the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships at Mary Washington's Battleground Athletic Complex.

Continuing his league-wide domination in the throwing events, Morris kicked off the competition with another remarkable performance. The junior opened the afternoon by winning the hammer throw with a 54.52-meter launch. That marked the third-longest heave in school history. Later, he returned to the throwing circle and took the shot put with a 15.59-meter toss.

Coupled with his work in the weight throw and shot put during the winter, Morris has now claimed four conference titles this year. That marks the most individual crowns won by a member of the men's track & field program during a single campaign since former legend Ryan Scott captured five in 2017.

Along with Morris, the women also swept the throws on Friday. Kayla Asprey won the shot put with a 12.02-meter throw, while Rylee Ehrett took the hammer with a 45.68-meter missile. Stockpiling points in the two events, Asprey was also third in the hammer (37.71 meters), while Ehrett matched that finish in the shot put (10.95 meters).

In addition to the first-place throwers, Christopher Newport took the top-two spots in the men's 10,000. Pacing the field, Andrew Janetsky claimed the title with a time of 31:40.80, which was the fourth-fastest mark in school history. He also became the first Captain to win the 10,000 since Sam Koltisko in 2021.

Just behind Janetsky, Clayton Rankin was second in the race with a time of 31:50.55.

The men also boasted the top-two performers in both throwing events. In addition to Morris' victories, Ben Varner was the runner-up in the hammer (52.07 meters), and Daniel Young came in second in the shot put (15.35 meters). Both standouts hauled in All-Conference accolades for those efforts, while Varner jumped to seventh on the school's all-time performance list in the hammer with his showcase.

Four other Captains walked away with All-League laurels on Friday as well. For the men, Leo Brennan was second in the long jump after setting a new personal-best with a 7.11-meter distance. That bumped him to eighth on the program's all-time charts and marked the top showing by a Captain since 2017. Additionally, Trent Snyder came through with the meet's second-highest clearance in the pole vault after eclipsing 4.26 meters.

On the women's side, Ashley Eley came in second in the long jump with a 5.59-meter distance. Meanwhile, on the track, Sarah Bland threw down a time of 11:32.77 in the 3000-steeplechase. That placed her second overall, shaved nine seconds off her previous PR, and moved her to seventh on the school's all-time performance list.

Among other top performers for Christopher Newport, Lily Knowles was third in the women's pole vault (2.98 meters), while Sarah Dake came in fourth in the 10,000 (38:04.40). For the men, TJ Brown led the squad with a sixth-place finish in the 3000-steeplechase (9:53.31).

Through six events, both the men and women currently sit atop the team standings. The men have a 20-point lead over second-place Salisbury after amassing 77 total points. Meanwhile, the women have 68 points, which leads UC Santa Cruz by seven.

In addition to the final events on Friday, several preliminary races also took place on the opening day of action. Leading the way, Ellie Nuckols qualified second in the women's 100-hurdles after finishing in 14.56. That marked the seventh-fastest time in school history. Additionally, Annaka Busenlehner was fourth in the women's 100 (12.51), while Jahi Jemison qualified for the finals and posted top-five times in both the men's 110-hurdles (15.37) and 100 (11.08).

The outdoor championships will resume tomorrow at 11 a.m. with the start of the men's high jump and women's discus.
