In over two decades of time on the sideline for Christopher Newport men's soccer, Steve Shaw established himself as one of the finest coaches in the nation. In total, his teams combined for an overall record of 319-110-36 and a winning percentage of .722 while proving even better in conference play with a 119-26-13 record and .794 winning mark. Shaw led the Captains to nine NCAA Tournament appearances and was at the helm when the 2009 version of his squad became the first team in any sport in Christopher Newport history to earn a number one national ranking. 

For his efforts, Shaw was named the NSCAA Region Coach of the Year four times and was the Conference Coach of the Year on eight different occasions. He led Christopher Newport to five conference tournament championships including three straight from 2009-11 and the Captains finished over .500 in all but one season with Shaw as the head coach, while averaging nearly 14 wins per season. He ranks in the top-50 nationally among the winningest coaches all-time at any of the three NCAA divisions and is in the top-20 among Division III coaches. He became just the fourth head coach to eclipse 20 years of service at Christopher Newport.
