The first All-American in the history of the men's tennis program, Detlef Scholz is arguably the most dominant player in program history. He earned ITCA All-American honors in both 1982 and 1984, while ranking nationally in the Top 20 Final Poll in both seasons. He was a three-time NCAA National Championship participant, advancing to the third round of singles in 1982 and competing in both singles and doubles in 1983 and 1984. A two-time Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (DIAC) Champion at No. 1 singles, he also secured three doubles championships with current CNU Hall of Famer John Mouring. Upon graduation, Scholz held the program record for literally every single recorded statistic in both singles and doubles. He remains the Captains' all-time leader in single season singles victories (24) and career winning percentage for both singles (.833) and doubles (.818). His single-season and career numbers remain lauded, as he finished his tenure with a 65-13 singles record and a 54-12 doubles mark.

The first of only three men's tennis players to earn multiple All-American honors in their career, Scholz will become the fourth men's tennis player to join the CNU Athletics Hall of Fame, with Mouring, Holden Knight and John Mook.
