LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Christopher Newport track & field teams punctuated the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic with several historic efforts on Saturday afternoon as the Captains shined during the final day of the competition at Lynchburg's Shellenberger Field and Dr. Jack M. Toms Track.
Headlining Saturday's action,
Ellie Nuckols won the 400 in 58.33. Later, she came back with a time of 1:05.28 in the 400-hurdles. That placed her second in the field and marked the 10th-fastest clocking in school history. It also was the top effort by a Captain since former All-American Enuma Ezenwa threw down a 1:03.66 mark in 2015.
Later in the meet,
Katie Stevens also climbed up the program's all-time performance list in the discus. The junior standout won the event with a 43.60-meter heave, which was the second-longest throw in school history and the finest mark since Sarah Johnson set the record with a 43.94-meter toss in 2019.
