NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
Dominating the field events throughout the competition, the Christopher Newport track & field teams kicked off the outdoor campaign with a historic showcase during the Blue & Silver Challenge on Saturday at TowneBank Stadium.

Throughout the meet, CNU stockpiled 16 victories, including nine in field events. Leading the way, Ashley Eley and Seth Morris both walked away with a pair of first-place efforts. For the women, Eley captured the triple jump with an 11.25-meter distance before winning the high jump with a 1.62-meter clearance. That height equaled the fifth-best showing by a Captain in program history.

Meanwhile, for the men, Morris jumped to fifth in school history in the hammer throw after unleashing a 53.06-meter missile. Later, he also took the shot put with a 15.39-meter toss.

Among other victors on the men's side, Dylan Filipowicz uncorked a 50.41-meter throw in the javelin, which bumped him to ninth on the school's all-time charts. Meanwhile, Sam Anania and Trent Snyder tied for the top clearance in the pole vault after eclipsing 4.16 meters. Additionally, on the track, Evan Young won the 1500 in 4:05.21, while Kaiden Brewer snatched the 3000-steeplechase in 10:33.58.

The men also dominated the relays after winning both the 4x100 (43.28) and 4x400 (3:34.33) to bookend the competition.

For the women, Kayla Asprey moved to ninth on the school's all-time charts after winning the shot put with a 12.14-meter distance. In other field events, Rylee Ehrett captured the hammer with a 44.01-meter toss, while Elizabeth Lacombe secured a win in the pole vault after clearing 2.55 meters.

Rounding out the victors, Danielle Hollington made her outdoor debut and beat the field in the 200 (26.89), while Sarah Dake continued her starring work in the distance events on the way to a triumph in the 1500 (4:54.32). The women also walked away with a title in the 4x400-relay (4:26.92).

In addition to the first-place finishers, Henry Hunt orchestrated one of the finest meets of his career. The junior moved to ninth on Christopher Newport's all-time performance list in both the discus (45.98 meters) and hammer (47.74 meters). Eventually, he finished second in both disciplines on Saturday.

Among other top performers in field events, Mikael Gessesse was the runner-up in the triple jump (12.96 meters), while Lemuel Avery was fifth in the long jump (6.11 meters). For the women, Sadie Forde unloaded the meet's third-longest javelin throw (27.70 meters). Additionally, Bailey Billger was sixth in the long jump (4.77 meters), and Charlotte Waldemar matched that finish in the discus (30.81 meters).

In addition to her work in the long jump, Billger also was the runner-up in the 400-hurdles (1:11.74). Among other second-place performers, Annaka Busenlehner completed the 100 in 12.94, Ellie Nuckols finished the 400 in 58.73, and Sarah Bland wrapped up the 800 in 2:24.28. Meanwhile, Lena Blagg came in fourth in the 5000 after crossing the line in 18:54.93.

For the men, Miles Allen came in second in the 400 (51.50), Jacob Diehl was third in the 100 (11.15), and Patrick Clark finished fifth in the 400-hurdles (1:01.43). Three Captains also led the squad with fourth-place marks as Eli Wilson starred in the 200 (22.61), TJ Brown excelled in the 800 (2:01.49), and Jahi Jemison shined in the 110-hurdles (16.40).

"For our first outdoor meet of the season, there was a lot to manage between the weather and hosting the HS Captains Classic while also getting into our own events," said head coach Tyler Wingard. "But, 31 Team PRs was a pretty good haul along with the six new All-Time Performances. There are definitely some areas we need to improve and plenty of examples from within the team of how that can and will come together. All and all, it was a good, solid work day for the team."

Christopher Newport will return to action next week with the start of The Colonial Relays on Thursday in Williamsburg.
