WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The men's distance medley relay posted a first-place finish on Saturday as the Christopher Newport track & field teams capped off the final day of the Camel City Invitational at the JDL Fast Track.
During the meet, the DMR registered a victory after finishing in 10:10.89. Together, the foursome of
Billy Rabil,
Brandon Berry,
Cullen Monahan, and
Cavanaugh McGaw eclipsed the second-place squad by nearly seven seconds during the race.
In addition to the relay, the throwers capped off a busy meet on Saturday. After establishing a new program record in the weight throw on Friday,
Hannah Shoemaker came back with a 12th-place showing in the shot put after firing a 12.78-meter effort.
Sarah Johnson also came in 24th with an 11.40-meter heave.
Meanwhile, on the men's side,
Brendon Burrows led the Captains in the shot put after landing a 14.20-meter distance, which placed him 14th in the field.
Legend Hayes also came in 24th with a 12.74-meter toss.
Rounding out the competitors,
Ryan Scott also took part in the 60-hurdles on Saturday and finished 14th after crossing the line in 8.39.
Christopher Newport will return to action on Sunday when the Captains host the Vince Brown Invitational at the Freeman Center.
