NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
Capping off a remarkable weekend, the Christopher Newport track & field teams swept the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, while Seth Morris and Rylee Ehrett were celebrated as the Field Athletes of the Meet after wrapping up the title competition on Saturday afternoon at the Freeman Center.

Claiming their sixth consecutive indoor title, the women collected 158.33 points, which out-distanced UC Santa Cruz by 29. Meanwhile, the men returned to the top of the league after unseating the Banana Slugs while finishing with 166 points. Salisbury came in second with 146, while the defending champions placed third with 135.

On an individual level, Morris and Ehrett combined to win all four throwing events during the two-day meet. Both standouts swept the shot put and weight throw while dominating the competition.

Overall, the Captains walked away with eight individual crowns during the weekend, including three on Saturday.

"While we were favorites on the women's side, even knowing what Santa Cruz was capable of bringing, the men were big underdogs to Salisbury and Santa Cruz going in," said head coach Tyler Wingard, whose teams accumulated 44 PRs during the meet. "Both squads competed really well from start to finish in every event group. They fed off of each other's big performances and rebounded from the stumbles really well. They really earned these titles!"

Headlining the action, Ehrett and Morris capped off their weekend with victories in the shot put. Ehrett won the women's event with an 11.15-meter throw, and Morris captured the men's discipline with a 16.22-meter launch. Coupled with their wins in the weight throw on Friday, Ehrett became just the fifth woman to sweep the indoor throwing events in league history, while Morris became the third man to accomplish the double-dip.

Rounding out Saturday's champions, Ellie Nuckols took the women's 400 in 58.01. That vaulted her to sixth on the program's all-time performance list and marked the fastest clocking by a Captain since 2011.

In addition to the three victors, seven other Captains garnered All-League accolades after placing second in their respective events. On the women's side, Sarah Bland was the runner-up in both the 800 (2:22.65) and mile (5:09.45). Her clocking in the latter race moved her to sixth on the program's all-time leaderboard, while teammate Courtney Mudd climbed to seventh after finishing third in 5:11.19. Additionally, in field events, Elizabeth Lacombe was second in the pole vault (2.99 meters), Ashley Eley was the runner-up in the triple jump (11.46 meters), and Charlotte Waldemar was just behind Ehrett in the shot put (10.88 meters).

For the men, Andrew Janetsky was second in the 3000 after crossing in 8:42.02. That was the 10th-fastest time in school history. Jahi Jemison was also the runner-up in the 60-hurdles (8.69), and Daniel Young finished behind Morris in the shot put (15.70 meters).

Along with his work in the hurdles, Jemison paced the Captains with fourth-place efforts in the 60 (7.06) and high jump (1.75 meters). Meanwhile, Eli Wilson came in third in the 400 (50.86) and fourth in the 200 (22.81), while Leo Brennan chipped in with a third-place mark in the triple jump (13.46 meters) after setting a championship meet record in the long jump on Friday. Evan Young was also fourth in the mile (4:22.43), Kevin Farnsworth came in fifth in the 800 (1:58.79), and the 4x400-relay was third overall. Together, the foursome of Elijah Kakosso, Marshall Mattison, Luca Hinton, and Dylan Defoor clocked in at 3:28.35.

Among other top performers for the women, Sarah Dake was third in the 3000 (10:24.18), while Nuckols matched that finish in the 60-hurdles (9.07). Danielle Hollington, Lana Sakhel, Sydney Chipperfield, and Mudd also came in third in the 4x400-relay with a 4:15.96 clocking.

In addition to her work on the relay, Hollington placed fourth in the conference in the 200 (26.89), while Annaka Busenlehner rounded out the top finishers with a fifth-place mark in the 60 (8.05).

With the league titles in their pocket, the Captains will set their sights on qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Championships, which will begin on March 13 in Birmingham, Alabama. Christopher Newport will return to action with the CNU Qualifier on March 1 at the Freeman Center.
