ALLIANCE, Ohio --
Wrapping up a historic two-day stretch in the combined events, Ellie Nuckols and Jahi Jemison starred for the Christopher Newport track & field teams on Thursday during the Mount Union Final Qualifier at Kehres Stadium.

Headlining the action, Nuckols posted a victory in the heptathlon after posting a score of 4,401. That marked the fifth-highest total by a Captain in program history and bumped her to 33rd on the national charts this year.

After setting three PRs during the first day of the competition, Nuckols added a fourth on Thursday after winning the 800 in 2:22.88. That shaved nearly a second off her previous standard. Meanwhile, she also won the long jump with a 5.32-meter distance and added an 18.82-meter heave in the javelin.

Following her work in the heptathlon, Nuckols capped off the day with a victory in the 400-hurdles after crossing the line in 1:03.48.

Along with Nuckols, Ashley Eley finished the heptathlon with 3,525 points, which placed her seventh in the field. The second-year standout landed a 4.76-meter leap in the long jump, unloaded a 21.11-meter toss in the javelin, and concluded the 800 in 3:07.70.

On the men's side, Jemison jumped to eighth on Christopher Newport's all-time performance list in the decathlon after finishing with a score of 5,160. That also marked the top effort by a Captain since 2021.

During the final five events of the competition, Jemison posted personal-best efforts in the 110-hurdles (16.50), discus (20.39 meters), and pole vault (2.87 meters). He also uncorked a 29.80-meter throw in the javelin and finished the 1500 in 5:06.84.

In addition to the combined standouts, two other Captains added third-place efforts in throwing events on Thursday. Tyler Palmer posted a 15.87-meter heave in the men's shot put, while Katie Stevens unleashed a 43.44-meter throw in the discus.

CNU will now await word on possible bids to the NCAA Championships, which begin on May 22 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. A final list of the meet participants will be posted on the NCAA's website by 8 p.m. on Friday.
