NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
The Christopher Newport track & field programs will contend for league supremacy beginning on Friday when the Captains kick off the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Championships, which will be hosted at TowneBank Stadium.

Action gets underway at 4 p.m. on Friday, while Saturday's slate opens at 11 a.m. Overall, men's and women's champions will be crowned in 20 different disciplines during the two-day competition.

Tickets for the title meet will be $10 for adults and $5 for students. They can be purchased with cash only at the stadium beginning one hour prior to each day's first event.

For those fans unable to attend the meet, live results and a video stream of the action will be available at CNUsports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Entering the meet, the Captains are searching for their fifth straight championship on the women's side, while the men are looking for their second consecutive crown. Overall, the women have won nine of the 10 team titles since joining the conference in 2014, while the men have snatched six championships during that span.

On an individual level, four Captains enter the meet as reigning conference champions. Tyler Palmer won the men's shot put last year, while three women added their own victorious efforts. Ellie Nuckols swept the 100-hurdles and 400-hurdles, and Ashley Eley captured the high jump. Meanwhile, Katie Stevens is the three-time defending champion in the hammer and the back-to-back winner in the shot put, discus, and javelin.

Along with last year's victors, Sydney Trussell took the 100 and 200 during the 2023 competition.

This year, Christopher Newport boasts the top-seeded competitor in eight different events. Stevens leads the league in the shot put, discus, and hammer, while Nuckols is the top performer in both hurdle events. Rounding out the women's leaders, Trussell ranks first in the 400 after completing the race in 57.49 during the New Captains Classic.

The men also feature a pair of top-seeded throwers. Seth Morris enters the title meet slotted first in the shot put, while Colin Sliwa has the league's longest hammer throw.

Among a slew of other high-ranking Captains on the men's side, Leo Brennan is seeded second in the 400-hurdles, long jump, and triple jump. Additionally, Latrell Fomby is second in the discus and hammer, while Charlie Anania is third in the javelin. Evan Young also sits third in the 5000.

On the women's side, Sarah Dake is second in the 10,000, Eley has the same seed in the high jump, and Lily Knowles has the second-highest clearance in the pole vault. D'yan Robinson also ranks third in the triple jump after finishing fifth in the event during her debut last year.
