CHESTER, Pa. -- Rewriting the program's all-time performance lists, the Christopher Newport track & field teams orchestrated a series of top-flight efforts at the Widener Final Qualifier as the Captains shined during the competition on Monday at the George A. Hansell Track.
Headlining the action,
Ellie Nuckols climbed up the national charts in the 400-hurdles after finishing the race in 1:01.63. That moved her to 19th on this year's NCAA leaderboard and marked the fourth-fastest clocking in school history. It was also the top time by a Captain since 1998.
In other events on the women's side,
Sarah Bland jumped to second on Christopher Newport's all-time performance list in the 3000-steeplechase after clocking in at 11:15.93. Meanwhile,
Kayla Asprey posted a 43.44-meter distance in the discus. That was the third-best effort in school history.
For the men,
Andrew Janetsky capped off the evening with a time of 14:50.41 in the 5000. That shaved 18 seconds off his previous PR and was the fifth-fastest clocking by a Captain.
The men also added some memorable marks in the throwing events.
Seth Morris won the hammer with a 55.24-meter launch, which moved him to second in school history. Additionally,
Ben Varner landed a 52.71-meter heave. That also established a new PR and bumped him to sixth on the all-time charts.
Meanwhile, in the javelin,
Charlie Anania eclipsed his personal-best by four feet after registering a 53.23-meter distance, which was the sixth-best showing in program lore.
Rounding out the men's top performers in field events,
Daniel Young won the shot put with a 15.70-meter throw, while
Bradley Stine was the runner-up in the discus (45.70 meters).
Trent Snyder also led CNU in the pole vault after topping 4.26 meters.
The women also filled the top of the leaderboard in a slew of field disciplines.
Ashley Eley was fourth in both the high jump (1.57 meters) and triple jump (11.39 meters), while Asprey added a seventh-place performance in the shot put (11.14 meters). Meanwhile,
Rylee Ehrett came in 10th in the hammer with a 46.15-meter showcase.
On the track,
Danielle Hollington chipped in with a fourth-place finish in the 400 after crossing in 57.50. Over longer distances,
Sydney Chipperfield wrapped up the 800 in 2:25.68,
Courtney Mudd polished off the 1500 in 4:47.68, and
Sarah Dake finished the 5000 in 18:03.71.
For the men,
Miles Allen led the Captains in both the 200 (22.62) and 400 (49.83), while
Darrin Gallegos-Perches added a mark of 15.66 in the 110-hurdles. Later in the evening,
Kevin Farnsworth posted a time of 1:56.09 in the 800.
Christopher Newport will return to action on Wednesday with the start of the Mount Union Final Qualifier in Alliance, Ohio.
