WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Punctuating an impressive three-day appearance at the 59th Annual Colonial Relays, the Christopher Newport track & field teams came through with a record-setting performance on Saturday afternoon at William & Mary's Zable Stadium and Stimson Throwing Area.
Headlining the action on Saturday, the Captains established a new school standard in the women's 4x1500-relay. During the unique race,
Courtney Mudd,
Millie Weinhold,
Sarah Bland, and
Adalyn Perez teamed up on a time of 19:56.28. That just eclipsed the previous record of 19:56.63, which was set during the same meet on the same track on April 2, 2016.
Their record-setting work continued an impressive weekend for the distance crew. During Friday's action, Perez set a PR in the 1500 (4:49.69), while Bland and Weinhold established personal-best marks in the 800 after finishing in 2:21.65 and 2:22.92, respectively. Additionally, Mudd had an outdoor PR in the latter race with a time of 2:29.84.
On the men's side, Christopher Newport also registered a sixth-place finish in the Distance Medley Relay on Saturday. During the competition,
Kevin Farnsworth,
Taylor Dalton,
Johnny Atienza, and
Luke Tompkins wrapped up the race in 10:34.82.
Along with the relays, CNU posted four top-10 finishes in throwing events. In the men's shot put,
Tyler Palmer came in fifth with a 15.52-meter heave. Later,
Daniel Young was seventh in the event (15.41 meters), while
Seth Morris placed eighth (15.35 meters). For the women,
Katie Stevens was third in the discus after uncorking a 40.59-meter throw.
Christopher Newport will return to action on April 11 for the start of the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic at Lynchburg's Shellenberger Field and Dr. Jack M. Toms Track.
