FAIRFAX, Va. --
Latrell Fomby and Colin Sliwa pieced together historic efforts in the men's throwing events while leading the Christopher Newport track & field teams to another solid outing on Saturday afternoon during the Patriot Games at the George Mason Field House.

Climbing up the program's all-time performance list in a pair of events, Fomby excelled in both the weight throw and shot put. Kicking off the day, he unloaded a 17.05-meter toss in the weight throw, which moved him into the top-50 nationally and marked the fifth-longest heave in program history. Later, he added a 14.72-meter launch in the shot put, which bumped him to ninth on the school's all-time list.

Along with Fomby, Sliwa was equally dominant in the weight throw. During the meet, he placed third overall with a 17.12-meter toss. That vaulted him into the top-50 on the national charts and elevated him to third on the program's all-time performance list.

In other field events on the men's side, Leo Brennan came in second in the high jump (1.81 meters) and fifth in the triple jump (12.83 meters). Nick Williams also paced the Captains with a 6.01-meter leap in the long jump, which marked the fifth-longest showing at the meet.

The women also had several standouts in the field events. Katie Stevens finished third in the weight throw (16.04 meters) and fourth in the shot put (11.84 meters). Additionally, Kendal Brown came in sixth in the high jump (1.41 meters), Alex Guzman was seventh in the triple jump (10.61 meters), and D'yan Robinson added a team-best mark of 4.64 meters in the long jump.

Flashing their versatility, Brown and Robinson shined on the track as well. Brown notched CNU's top clockings in the 60-hurdles (11.52) and 500 (1:33.79), while Robinson stood atop the team in the 60 (8.34) and 200 (28.97).

Among other track standouts, Sydney Trussell came in fourth in the 400 (59.25), Courtney Mudd was eighth in the 800 (2:28.60), Sarah Dake placed ninth in the 3000 (10:49.59), and Josie Brumfield finished 16th in the mile (5:34.44). Mudd, Sydney Chipperfield, Sarah Bland, and Didi Dasilva also joined forces on an eighth-place showing in the 4x400-relay. Together, the foursome finished in 4:30.10.

The men also landed a multitude of runners in the top-five on Saturday. Marshall Mattison completed the 60 in 7.06, which placed him third in the finals. Johnny Atienza also came in fourth in the 800 (1:57.84), while Darrin Gallegos-Perches was fifth in the 60-hurdles (9.11).

Among other team-best finishes, Roth Thomas was sixth in the 400 (52.27), while Eli Wilson matched that showing in the 500 (1:08.71). Additionally, Ben Hager was ninth in the 200 (23.32), Taylor Dalton was 13th in the 3000 (8:57.40), and Kevin Farnsworth finished 14th in the 1000 (2:41.11). Clayton Rankin also wrapped up the mile in 4:38.11, which just missed his PR.

Christopher Newport will return to action on February 7 for the start of the Camel City Invitational in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
