NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport track & field teams will host their first outdoor meet of the year on Saturday when the Captains take part in the Blue & Silver Challenge at TowneBank Stadium.
Action gets underway with the men's hammer and women's javelin at 11:45 a.m. Track disciplines open with the women's steeplechase at 12:20 p.m.
For those fans unable to attend the meet, live results and a video stream of the action will be available at CNUsports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.
Over 50 Captains are currently entered in at least one event. They will test themselves against a collection of top-flight competition ranging from William & Mary to fellow Division III rivals Hampden-Sydney, Virginia Wesleyan, and Colby.
After opening the outdoor season with an appearance at the Dan Stimson Memorial Invitational earlier this month, Christopher Newport already has multiple standouts scattered throughout the national rankings. Headlining that group,
Katie Stevens ranks sixth in the women's hammer, 28th in the discus, and 29th in the shot put.
Meanwhile, on the men's side, five throwers sit in the top-50. In the shot put,
Seth Morris is 15th nationally,
Daniel Young is 34th, and
Tyler Palmer is 35th. Meanwhile, in other events,
Latrell Fomby is 26th in the discus, and
Dante Ntiganzwa is 32nd in the hammer.
On the track,
Daniel Ferrante ranks 22nd in the NCAA in the 800 after finishing in 1:55.34 on March 16. Meanwhile,
Eli Wilson,
Kevin Farnsworth,
Leo Brennan, and
David Keroack slot 45th in the 4x400-relay after completing the race in 3:27.07.
Aided by those performances, the men currently sit eighth in the USTFCCCA Regional Rankings, while the women are listed 20th overall.
After this week's meet, Christopher Newport will return to action at the Colonial Relays, which begin on April 4 in Williamsburg.
