NEW ORLEANS -- Following outstanding work both in and out of the classroom, Christopher Newport standouts
Seth Morris,
Katie Stevens, and
Daniel Young were all named to the USTFCCCA National All-Academic Team, while both the men's and women's track & field programs were also recognized for their collective efforts during the 2024-25 campaign.
Stevens was celebrated for the third straight year, while Morris and Young received the prestigious honor for the first time. The national recognition is bestowed upon student-athletes who posted a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 while ranking in the top-50 nationally in at least one event.
In addition to the individual honorees, both the men's and women's teams were also honored by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The women received the Academic Team Award for the 16th time since 2008, while the men earned the honor for the first time since 2021.
To qualify for the Team Award, programs must have a cumulative GPA of 3.1 or higher.
Polishing off her tenure as one of the most decorated student-athletes in Christopher Newport history, Stevens picked up three All-American awards during her senior campaign. Starring throughout the year, she placed 16th in the nation in the weight throw at the NCAA Indoor Championships before matching that finish in both the discus and hammer during the outdoor competition in the spring. She also captured five league titles and was named the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year.
Walking away as the program's all-time record-holder in the weight throw, discus, and hammer, Stevens was equally successful as a communications major while earning Academic All-District nods for the second straight year.
Orchestrating an award-winning sophomore season, Morris established himself as one of the top throwers on the men's team. During the year, he garnered All-State and All-Region accolades while ranking in the top-50 nationally in both the indoor and outdoor shot put. In the winter, he established a new PR in the event with a 15.85-meter missile, which marked the second-longest throw in program history. Meanwhile, he added an All-Conference citation in the hammer after finishing second at the outdoor league meet.
A two-time C2C Field Athlete of the Week, Morris also brought home Academic All-Conference and All-District nods while boasting a near perfect GPA as a finance major.
Equally dominant in the shot put, Young secured All-Region awards during both the indoor and outdoor seasons while notching All-State plaudits in the spring. During his junior campaign, he also walked away with the indoor league title after uncorking a 15.55-meter heave at the championship meet. Later, in the spring, he added second-team All-League honors and vaulted to third on the program's all-time leaderboard with a 15.77-meter launch during the South Region Final Qualifier. That also placed him 47th on the national charts in 2025.
Meanwhile, in the classroom, Young wrapped up his junior year as an Academic All-Conference and All-District performer for his work as an accounting major.
