CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Christopher Newport track & field teams polished off the MIT Final Qualifier with a solid showcase on Thursday evening at the Sherie and Don Morrison Track.
Continuing her sensational sophomore season,
Katie Stevens established a new PR in the discus with a 40.66-meter launch. That moved her to third on the program's all-time performance list. She also added a 46.93-meter heave in the hammer.
Putting her versatility on display,
Alyssa Roach was second in the long jump (5.49 meters) and sixth in the 100-hurdles (14.94), while
Adrianna DeSantis added a sixth-place showing in the 400 (1:00.01).
On the men's side, Christopher Newport excelled in the field events.
CJ Reeders was third in the triple jump (13.12 meters), while
Nick Thomas led the squad with a 6.54-meter leap in the long jump. He also placed fifth in the triple with a 12.56-meter performance.
In the throwing events,
Tyler Palmer was seventh in the shot put (14.42 meters), and
Colin Sliwa came in eighth in the hammer (44.02).
Jack Armel also chipped in with a 4.29-meter clearance in the pole vault, which placed him sixth in the field.
On the track for the men,
Perry Spring finished fourth in the 400 (51.01), and
Gustavo Leitao rounded out the meet with a fifth-place showing in the 400-hurdles (55.88).
The Captains will now await word on possible bids to the NCAA Championships, which begin on May 25 at the Polisseni Track & Field Complex in Rochester, New York. The final list of meet participants will be posted on NCAA.com by 8 p.m. on Friday.
