Daniel Fox, Kaitlyn Ardrey, and Jack Armel Haul in Coast-to-Coast Conference Track & Field Athlete of the Week Awards

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Daniel Fox and Kaitlyn Ardrey swept the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week awards, while Jack Armel was celebrated as the top field standout on the men's side after the three stars put together excellent efforts for Christopher Newport during the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic over the weekend in Lynchburg.

The accolade is the fourth career weekly award for both Ardrey and Fox, while Armel has now been celebrated twice after previously securing the Field Athlete of the Week honor as a sophomore on April 6, 2021.

Headlining the award-winning trio, Ardrey established a new school record in the 5,000 on Friday evening. During the race, she crossed the line in 17:33.22, which shaved over 12 seconds off Logan Funk's previous standard of 17:46.10 set last month. It also moved her to first in the league, fourth in the region, and 43rd in the NCAA this year.

In addition to her historic run in the 5,000, Ardrey also ranks first in the conference in the 10,000 after breaking the league record in the event with a time of 36:40.52 at the Colonial Relays in March. That also ranks 21st in the NCAA this year.

On the men's side, Fox jumped to the top of the conference leaderboard in a pair of sprints at Lynchburg. During the meet, he threw down a time of 10.70 in the 100, which marked the top clocking by a league competitor this year by over a tenth of a second. The sophomore speedster also posted a clocking of 21.96 in the 200. That leads the conference by four-tenths of a second.

His work on Saturday also moved him into the top-10 on the regional charts this year. Fox now ranks sixth in the South in the 100 and 10th in the 200. He also sits 30th nationally in the 100.

While Fox and Ardrey were lighting up the track, Armel was starring in the pole vault. The junior standout established a new PR in the event after winning the competition with a 4.50-meter clearance. That also marked the sixth-best effort in program history and the finest showing by anyone in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference this year.

In addition to moving to the top of the league leaderboard this season, Armel also jumped to second on the regional charts with his performance on Saturday. Additionally, he now stands 44th in the NCAA.

Christopher Newport will return to action on Saturday when the Captains head to Salisbury for the Eastern Shore Challenge.
