Daniel Fox, CJ Reeders, and Zoe Stauffer Headline 2021 Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Track & Field Award Winners

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- After guiding Christopher Newport to a historic 2021 campaign, CJ Reeders was named the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Year, while Daniel Fox was selected as the league's top freshman and Zoe Stauffer was celebrated as the Women's Scholar-Athlete of the Year following tremendous work throughout the spring season.

In addition to the student-athlete honorees, Tyler Wingard and his assistants were named the Coast-to-Coast Conference Men's Coaching Staff of the Year for their efforts as well.

Receiving the league's top individual honor, Reeders added the Athlete of the Year Award to an ever-growing list of accolades. An All-Conference and All-Region performer, he also garnered All-American nods after placing seventh in the triple jump during the NCAA title meet last month.

In the spring, Reeders walked away with the triple jump and long jump crowns during the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Championships. His victory in the triple jump came in the midst of an epic run that saw the Quinton, Virginia native go undefeated against collegiate competition during a five-meet stretch from April 24 through May 20.

Overall, Reeders won the triple jump during seven meets in the spring, while he captured the long jump on four occasions. His personal-best mark of 14.87 meters in the triple jump during the Rowan Last Chance Meet in May marked the finest showing by any athlete in the South / Southeast Region this year. It also ranked sixth in the NCAA and vaulted him to seventh on the school's all-time performance list.

Piecing together a fantastic freshman season, Fox was electric in the sprints throughout the 2021 campaign. Honored as the Track Athlete of the Meet during the Conference Championships, he claimed three league titles. On an individual level, he swept both the 100 and 200 while also running a leg on the victorious 4x100-relay.

Consistently dominating the competition in the 100, Fox posted six wins in the event and did not lose to a single Division III runner during any of his first eight collegiate appearances. Meanwhile, he also added four wins in the 200 during the spring and chipped in with a pair of victories as a member of the 4x100-relay.

Adding his name to the history books, Fox moved into the top-10 on the program's all-time performance list in both the 100 and 200. In the 100, he threw down a PR of 10.72 during the league meet, which marked the seventh-best effort in program history. Additionally, his time of 21.76 in the 200 at the Charm City Invitational bumped him to eighth in school lore. Both of those clockings also ranked in the top-40 in the NCAA in 2021.

Solidifying her spot among the finest scholar-athletes in Christopher Newport history, Stauffer put an impressive punctuation mark on her undergraduate career with another decorated campaign. The multi-talented veteran collected All-Region accolades after ranking third in the South / Southeast with a score of 3,990 in the heptathlon. That also placed her among the top-50 nationally.

In addition to her work in the combined event, Stauffer also garnered All-Conference nods after placing second in the 400-hurdles at the league meet. Incredibly, the Spring Grove, Pennsylvania native also scored in three other events during the conference championships after finishing third in the javelin and sixth in both the long jump and 100-hurdles.

Along with her athletic pursuits, Stauffer continued to shine in the classroom as well. The reigning Academic All-American graduated with a perfect 4.00 GPA in Cellular, Molecular, and Physiological Biology. A perennial Academic All-Conference honoree, she has also been named an Academic All-State and All-Region performer for her scholarly achievements.

Rounding out the individual honorees, Wingard and his assistant were named the Men's Outdoor Track & Field Coaching Staff of the Year for the fourth time since 2016. Overall, they helped the Captains sweep the team titles during the Coast-to-Coast Championships. The men routed the competition during the meet, claiming nine individual titles while out-pacing the second-place squad by 91 points.

In the end, Christopher Newport student-athletes collected 27 All-Conference honors and 12 All-Region awards during the spring season, while Reeders and Alyssa Roach both competed at the NCAA Outdoor Championships earlier this month.
