Tentative Meet Schedule
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport track & field teams will host their first home meet of the year on Saturday when the Captains take part in the Blue & Silver Challenge at TowneBank Stadium.
Saturday's action gets underway with the men's hammer and women's javelin at 11 a.m. The women's steeplechase will kick off track disciplines at noon. Overall, both the men and women will compete in 19 events during the daylong competition.
Adhering to the campus COVID-19 guidelines, access to Saturday's meet will be limited to two designated family members of each athlete and coach on Christopher Newport's roster along with a select number of students and staff from the university. Opposing fans and other interested parties will not be permitted to attend the competition. In addition to Christopher Newport, Saturday's meet will feature representatives from four other schools. The Captains will test themselves against local rival William & Mary as well as fellow Coast-to-Coast Conference members Mary Washington, Salisbury, and St. Mary's (Md.).
Christopher Newport is coming off an exceptional performance at last week's Mary Washington Opener. During the meet, the Captains won 22 events while dominating the competition. For their work,

CJ Reeders,
Mae Savoie, and
Zoe Stauffer swept the Coast-to-Coast Track & Field Athlete of the Week Awards.
So far this year, all four award-winners rank in the top-15 nationally in their respective events. Savoie is sixth in the 1500 (4:52.09), Stauffer is eighth in the javelin (37.05 meters), Reeders is ninth in the triple jump (13.66 meters), and Edwards is 11th in the 800 (1:57.06).
Among other nationally-ranked competitors,
Kaitlyn Ardrey is second in the women's 5000 (17:56.04), while
Logan Funk is 10th in the 1500. On the men's side,
Nick Tolarchyk is 12th in the steeplechase (9:57.80), and both
Daniel Ferrante and
Nathanael Ferrante rank in the top-15 in the 800. The twins boast season-best times of 1:57.33 and 1:57.41, respectively.
Following Saturday's action, Christopher Newport will return to the road next week for the Colonial Relays, which begin on April 1 in Williamsburg.
