Ashley Eley and Dylan Filipowicz Receive Weekly Track & Field Honors from Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- After piecing together historic efforts for the Christopher Newport track & field teams over the weekend, Ashley Eley and Dylan Filipowicz swept the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week Awards, which were announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.

The women's award was the fourth of the year for Eley, who was previously celebrated on December 8, January 19, and March 30. Meanwhile, Filipowicz received the men's honor for the first time in his career.

Making her mark in the high jump, Eley established a new personal-best with a 1.63-meter clearance on Friday at the New Captains Classic. That marked the third-highest leap in program history and the finest effort by a conference competitor since 2022. It also launched her to 27th on this year's national leaderboard.

In addition to her work in the high jump, Eley starred in a variety of disciplines while competing in the heptathlon. During the combined event, she also registered new PRs in the long jump (5.33 meters), javelin (24.40 meters), and shot put (8.85 meters). Meanwhile, on the track, she posted times of 15.34 in the 100-hurdles, 27.54 in the 200, and 2:44.46 in the 800. Overall, she finished with a score of 4,231, which was the seventh-highest in school history.

On the men's side, Filipowicz jumped up the NCAA leaderboard in the javelin. On Friday, the first-year phenom uncorked a 61.25-meter heave. That marked the second-longest throw in school history and the finest effort by a Captain since 1977. It also added over 25 feet to his previous PR and was the longest toss by a league competitor since 2023.

Overall, Filipowicz's throw moved him to 14th on this year's national charts. Rounding out his weekend, the freshman also set a new personal-best in the hammer (38.33 meters) while adding a 35.36-meter launch in the discus and a 10.67-meter throw in the shot put.

With the regular season in the books, Eley, Filipowicz, and the rest of the Captains will set their sights on the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships, which will be hosted by Mary Washington beginning on May 1 in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
