Captains Haul in 14 All-Region Track & Field Awards after Capping Off Decorated Indoor Campaign

NEW ORLEANS -- The Christopher Newport track & field teams were well represented on the All-South / Southeast Region squad as 12 Captains combined to earn 14 awards after wrapping up an impressive indoor campaign.

All-Region accolades are awarded to the top-five ranked performers in each event from the nation's eight regions. Members of the top-three relay teams are also celebrated for their efforts.

Headlining Christopher Newport's decorated contingent, Monica Lannen and Alyssa Roach both earned two awards apiece. In the midst of penning the final chapter to her standout career, Lannen led the South / Southeast in the mile after posting a time of 5:08.16 at the Tufts National Qualifier. She also slotted fifth in the 800 with a 2:22.28 clocking.

On the other end, Roach kicked off her collegiate career with an incredible indoor season. The freshman phenom registered the region's finest pentathlon score after collecting 2,939 points during the CNU Qualifier. She also ranked third in the 60-hurdles after winning the Capital Athletic Conference championship with a time of 9.03 during the league meet.

Rounding out the women's honorees, Zoe Stauffer slotted third in the region in the pentathlon (2,595 points), Kaitlyn Ardrey was fifth in the 3000 (10:31.40), and Lauryn Helstrom was fifth in the high jump (1.58 meters).

Similar to the women, the men also saw two Captains earn All-Region accolades in their combined discipline. Starring in the heptathlon, Jack Armel ranked third in the event (3,880), while Riley Park was fourth (3,790).

Along with Armel and Park, two other freshmen were honored for their work in the winter. Sam Koltisko claimed the CAC championship in the 5000 (15:18.83) and ranked third in the region in the event. Meanwhile, CJ Reeders was fifth in the region and 23rd in the nation in the triple jump (14.36 meters).

Rounding out the award-winners, three other distance runners were celebrated for their work. Ryan Henderson stood second in the region in the mile (4:20.33), Jason Putnam was fifth in the 3000 (8:42.23), and Adam Wosahla ranked fifth in the 800 (1:55.53).

Christopher Newport will return to action on March 20 when the Captains kick off the outdoor campaign at the VCU Rams Invitational in Richmond.
