LA CROSSE, Wisc. -- Jeff Dover punctuated a remarkable 2017-18 campaign with a ninth-place finish in the 1500 as the Christopher Newport track & field team wrapped up the final day of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at the Veterans Memorial Sports Complex.
The only Captain to compete on Saturday, Dover used a late push during the final lap of the 1500 to climb into the top-10 with a time of 3:56.37. That effort eventually placed him ninth in the nation.
Saturday's performance capped off an incredible year for the Moyock, North Carolina native. Dover collected a pair of All-American awards in the mile and 3000 during the NCAA Indoor Championships after securing national plaudits for his work during the cross country season as well.
Continuing to shine under the bright lights, Dover has now finished in the top-10 during each of his six appearances at the NCAA Championships. Along with his All-American efforts during the 2018 indoor season, he previously secured top honors for his work in the indoor DMR in 2016 and the outdoor 1500 in 2017. Additionally, he placed ninth in the DMR in 2017 before his top-10 performance on Saturday.
In addition to Dover's work,
Legend Hayes earned All-American nods in the discus after finishing second in the nation on Thursday. Meanwhile, on Friday,
Ryan Scott placed 13th in the 110-hurdles, and
Cullen Monahan came in 17th in the 800. Scott, Monahan,
Kurt Waller, and
Cavanaugh McGaw also led the 4x400-relay to a 12th-place showing on Thursday.
