Volleyball Drops Two Matches On Day One Of Emory Tournament

ATLANTA, GA - Christopher Newport's volleyball team dropped its first two matches of the season Friday on day one of the Emory (GA) Tournament.

The Captains opened the season with a 3-1 loss to NAIA Berry (GA). Berry won 30-24, 30-21, 29-31 and 30-27.

Ellen Koch led the way for CNU with 12 kills and 14 digs. Sarah Coffey added 10 kills and 14 digs while Sarah Hunkele and Sarah Brown each finished with 10 kills. Christie Kirby contributed nine digs, Mary Horner had 18 digs and Brittany Collins finished with 34 assists and 17 digs.

The Eagles defeated Christopher Newport 30-26, 30-24 and 30-16.

Hunkele led the Captains with seven kills while Coffey finished with 15 digs and Collins added 23 assists and 11 digs.

CNU returns to action Saturday as they take on Puget Sound (WA) at 11:30 am and St. Thomas (MN) at 4:30 on day two of the Emory Tournament.
