NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
In their final tune-up before the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, the Christopher Newport track & field teams pieced together several historic efforts and registered seven victories during the Vince Brown Invitational on Sunday at the Freeman Center.

The Captains nearly made a clean sweep in the throwing events, including another starring performance by Seth Morris. On the men's side, the junior won the shot put with a 16.12-meter launch and the weight throw with a 16.16-meter effort. Meanwhile, the runner-up in both disciplines established a new PR. Daniel Young came in second in the shot put with a 15.89-meter toss, which placed him third on the school's all-time performance list. Ben Varner also landed a 15.64-meter heave in the weight throw, which ranked ninth on the program's all-time charts.

On the women's side, Kayla Asprey added another chapter to her historic debut campaign. The freshman posted the longest throw in the shot put with a 12.55-meter missile. That set a new personal-best and was the sixth-longest in school history. Meanwhile, Rylee Ehrett led all collegiate competitors in the weight throw and finished second overall with a 14.25-meter showing.

Among other victors, Eli Wilson won the men's 200 in 22.97, Courtney Mudd snatched the women's 800 in 2:22.38, and Ashley Eley topped the field in the women's high jump after eclipsing 1.57 meters. Christopher Newport also swept the 4x400-relays. The women's foursome of Danielle Hollington, Isabella Phillips, Lana Sakhel, and Didi Dasilva finished in 4:27.62, while the men's crew of Wilson, Matt Ryan, Elijah Kakosso, and Dylan Defoor wrapped up in 3:29.31.

"Overall, it was a good meet," said head coach Tyler Wingard, whose student-athletes posted 42 team PRs during the competition. "Much of what we have been working in is coming together, and we have more to build on heading into the Conference Championships."

In other track events on the women's side, Katherine Streeter came in second in the mile (5:26.12), while Mudd matched that finish in the 3000 (10:53.35). Additionally, Hollington came in third in the 400 (1:01.04), Annaka Busenlehner led the Captains in the 200 (28.16), and Bailey Billger paced the squad in the 60 (8.62). In addition to her work in the high jump, Eley also posted the team's finest effort in the 60-hurdles after finishing seventh overall, including a top time of 9.39 in the prelims.

Rounding out the top performers for the women, Lily Knowles was the runner-up in the pole vault after eclipsing 3.06 meters, while Billger finished third in both the long jump (4.88 meters) and triple jump (9.91 meters).

For the men, Jahi Jemison stayed busy during the competition while leading the team in the 60 and 60-hurdles. In the former event, he clocked in at 7.09, which placed him ninth overall. Later, he set a new PR in the hurdles after finishing the finals in 8.54. That placed him second in the field and marked the second-fastest time in the league this season.

Equally impressive on the track, Ryan came in third in the 400 (52.35), Luke Tompkins added the same finish in the 3000 (9:15.98), and Kevin Farnsworth followed suit in the 800 (2:00.22).

In field events, Trent Snyder was the runner-up in the pole vault (3.98 meters), and Leo Brennan added three team-best marks in the high jump (1.73 meters), long jump (6.39 meters), and triple jump (12.93 meters).

Christopher Newport will return to action on February 20 with the start of the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, which will be hosted at the Freeman Center.
