NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
Putting together an impressive showcase on the first day of the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, the Christopher Newport track & field teams walked away with five individual crowns and set a pair of meet records on Friday at the Freeman Center.

Kicking off the historic performances, Leo Brennan defended his title in the men's long jump after landing a distance of 7.10 meters. That eclipsed the previous meet record of 7.03 meters, which was set by Salisbury's Zachary White in 2014. It also marked the fourth-longest distance in school history and the top mark since 2017.

Coupled with his title last year, Brennan became the first Captain to win two straight indoor long jump titles since Nick Robinson dominated the Mason-Dixon Conference in 2003 and 2004.

Along with Brennan, freshman Trent Snyder added some history of his own while capturing the pole vault. During the event, he eclipsed 4.46 meters, which topped the previous championship standard of 4.45 meters set by CNU's Alan Pedin in 2022. It also equaled the seventh-highest clearance in school history.

Rounding out the men's victors, Seth Morris won the weight throw with a 17.33-meter missile, which vaulted him to fourth on the program's all-time leaderboard.

On the women's side, Rylee Ehrett was equally impressive in the weight throw. During the event, the junior unloaded a 14.84-meter heave, which tacked on nearly two feet to her previous PR. It also moved her to second on the school's all-time charts and added another chapter to Christopher Newport's recent dominance in the event. The Captains have now won five straight weight throw titles after Mazie Clark kicked off the run in 2022 before Katie Stevens snatched three straight from 2023-25.

In other field events, Ashley Eley continued her success at the indoor championships after winning the high jump with a 1.57-meter clearance. The third-year sensation has now won five indoor crowns since her collegiate debut, including a pair of high jump titles. She also claimed the event as a freshman in 2024.

In addition to the conference champions, two other Captains walked away with All-League accolades on Friday evening. Just behind Ehrett, Charlotte Waldemar came in second in the women's weight throw with a 13.32-meter effort. Meanwhile, on the men's side, Andrew Janetsky was the runner-up in the 5000, which ended one lap early after 4800 meters. He eventually completed the abbreviated race in 14:37.66.

Among other top performers for the men, Kevin Farnsworth, Tyler Obaugh, Luca Hinton, and Luke Tompkins teamed up for a third-place finish in the Distance Medley Relay after completing the event in 10:36.50. Two other Captains also added third-place efforts as Sam Anania topped 4.06 meters in the pole vault, and Noah Cooper landed a distance of 6.74 meters in the long jump.

For the women, Sarah Dake placed third in the 5000 (18:24.76), while Lauren Ryan, Millie Weinhold, Alexis Rose, and Courtney Mudd matched that finish in the DMR after wrapping up in 13:14.64. Ellie Nuckols also paced the squad with a fifth-place performance in the long jump (5.37 meters).

In prelim events, Nuckols was third in the 60-hurdles (9.09), while Annaka Busenlehner was sixth in the 60 (8.03). On the men's side, Darrin Gallegos-Perches posted the second-fastest qualifying time in the 60-hurdles (8.77), and Jahi Jemison came in fourth in the 60 prelims (7.05).

After five events, CNU sits first in the women's standings with 47.33 points, while UC Santa Cruz is second with 46.33. The men also boast the top score with 70 points, while the Banana Slugs are next with 39.

The final day of the league championships will begin tomorrow at 10 a.m.
