Courtney Mudd Hailed as Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Following an action-packed week that saw her star at back-to-back meets in two different states, Christopher Newport standout Courtney Mudd was named the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week.

The weekly honor was the first of Mudd's career. Meanwhile, she became the third different Captain to earn the accolade this season, joining teammates Ellie Nuckols (January 19) and Sarah Dake (January 26).

Kicking off her award-winning week, Mudd ran the opening leg on CNU's record-setting Distance Medley Relay on Saturday. Competing at the Camel City Sprints & Distance Festival in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, she teamed up with Danielle Hollington, Ellie Nuckols, and Sarah Bland to win the DMR in 12:21.01. That shattered the previous program record of 12:36.75, which she helped set at the same facility on January 26, 2024.

During Saturday's showcase, Mudd ran the opening 1200 meters in 3:48.50. That cut two seconds off her leg from the 2024 relay. It also gave the Captains an eight-second lead on the way to the historic finish.

Eventually, the foursome's final time moved CNU to fifth on the national charts this year.

Following her appearance at the JDL Fast-Track, Mudd returned home for a pair of races at the Vince Brown Invitational on Sunday at the Freeman Center. Opening the meet in the 800, she posted a victory after crossing the line in 2:22.38. That marked the second-fastest clocking in the league this year and sliced three seconds off her indoor PR.

Later in the day, Mudd capped off her week with another showcase in the 3000. Finishing second overall - and first among Division III competitors, she clocked in at 10:53.35. That also established a new personal-best, shaving 11 seconds off her previous standard.

So far this season, Mudd ranks second in the conference in the 800 and mile while slotting sixth in the 3000. Her DMR crew also sits first on the league leaderboard by two minutes.

Mudd's efforts last week added another chapter to her standout junior campaign. In the fall, she earned All-Conference accolades as a member of the cross country program. Additionally, at the Rowan Inter-Regional Border Battle, she set a new 6k PR in 22:37.8, which vaulted her to 15th on the school's all-time performance list.

In addition to her decorated tenure on the cross country team, Mudd is also a former All-Conference, All-State, and All-Region honoree for her past work on the track & field squad.

Mudd and the rest of her teammates will return to action on February 20 for the start of the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, which will be hosted at the Freeman Center.
