FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Following another historic performance by the sophomore speedster,
Andrew Janetsky was honored as the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week after starring for Christopher Newport during the CNU Invitational on Friday evening at Lee Hall Mansion.
The weekly honor was the second of Janetsky's career after he was previously celebrated by the league as a freshman on September 3, 2024.
Dominating his home course on Friday, Janetsky threw down a time of 25:48.77 in the 8k. That marked the third-fastest time at the meet and the finest effort by a Division III runner. It also shaved three seconds off his previous PR of 25:51.4, which he established last year at the Rowan Inter-Regional Border Battle.
In addition to setting a new personal standard for the second-year star, Janetsky's clocking also moved him to 33rd on the program's all-time 8k performance list.
Friday's masterpiece continued an exceptional start to the year for Janetsky. During his season debut at the Spider Alumni Open in August, he set a new school record in the 6k after finishing in 18:43.2. That obliterated the previous mark by 14 seconds and shaved 30 ticks off his old PR.
Along with his work in 2025, Janetsky shined throughout his freshman campaign last fall. Honored as the league's Rookie of the Year, he hauled in All-Conference and All-Region accolades for his efforts. He capped off his debut campaign by finishing 28th overall - and third among freshmen - at the NCAA South Regionals.
Following his award-winning work in cross country, Janetsky added an All-Conference honor in the indoor 5000 during the track & field season as well.
Janetsky and the rest of the Captains will return to action on September 27 when Christopher Newport heads to Salisbury for the Don Cathcart Invitational.
