FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Following historic efforts at the 51st Annual Paul Short Run on Friday, Christopher Newport standouts
Sarah Dake and
Andrew Janetsky swept the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week Awards, which were announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
The weekly honors were the second of the year for both stars. Dake was previously recognized on September 2, while Janetsky was celebrated on September 15. They became the first Captains to receive the award twice in a single season since 2021 when former legends Clark Edwards and Logan Funk hauled in multiple accolades for CNU.
Continuing her assault on the history books, Dake pieced together the finest performance of her career during the Paul Short Run. Lighting up the Goodman Cross Country Course, the third-year speedster established a new personal-best in the 6k after finishing in 22:27.4. That shaved two seconds off her previous PR of 22:29.1, which she set just last week at the Don Cathcart Invitational.
Overall, Dake's time on Friday was the 11th-fastest in school history and the top clocking by a Captain in three years.
On the men's side,
Andrew Janetsky paced CNU in the 8k. During the competition, the sophomore standout completed the race in 25:30.7. That was the second-fastest time of his career, trailing only his mark of 24:53.3 from last week's Don Cathcart Invitational. His time on Friday also cut over a full minute off his course PR, which he set during last year's meet at Lehigh University.
Friday's outing was also Janetsky's third straight 8k in which he produced a sub-26-minute clocking this year.
Making their work even more impressive, Dake and Janetsky faced one of the most star-studded fields in the nation at the Paul Short Run. Competing in the White Division, the Captains squared off against 40 regionally-ranked programs and nearly a dozen nationally-ranked foes. In the end, Dake came in 65th in the 6k, while Janetsky was 73rd in the 8k.
Dake, Janetsky, and the rest of the Captains will be back in action on October 18 when Christopher Newport takes part in the Inter-Regional Border Battle, which will be hosted by Rowan University in Logan Township, New Jersey.
