ROCHESTER, N.Y. --
Christopher Newport standout Katie Stevens collected her third career All-American honor after placing 16th in the weight throw during the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday afternoon at the Golisano Training Center in Rochester, New York.

During the title competition, Stevens posted a 16.81-meter toss on her final throw of the meet to secure second-team All-American accolades. She also was a second-team selection in the weight throw last year before earning first-team nods in the discus during the outdoor championships.

Kicking off her award-winning appearance on Friday, the Cary, North Carolina native uncorked a 16.65-meter launch on her first attempt, which marked the second-longest opening throw in the first flight of competitors. Following a 16.42-meter heave on her second try, she wrapped up the meet with a 16.81-meter distance.

Friday's outing capped off a brilliant indoor campaign for the fourth-year phenom. Prior to the national championships, Stevens was undefeated in the weight throw against Division III competition during the winter. She eventually posted the top distance at five separate meets, including a 17.80-meter missile at the South Region Final Qualifier on March 8. That throw broke her own school and conference record.

Stevens also claimed her third consecutive Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference title in the event after setting a new championship meet record with a 17.20-meter toss on February 21. Along with her work in the weight throw, Stevens also completed a three-peat in the shot put and was celebrated as the league's Field Athlete of the Meet for the third consecutive year.

One of the most decorated competitors in program lore, Stevens is a 15-time conference champion. Meanwhile, she is now just the third thrower in Christopher Newport history to earn three All-American awards. CNU Hall of Famer Claudia Stanley was a seven-time selection from 1984-87, while Rachael Clark collected four national honors from 2006-08.

Entering the spring, Stevens is already the school's all-time record-holder in the weight throw (17.80 meters), discus (48.86 meters), and hammer throw (52.82 meters). All three of those marks rank first in league history as well.
