WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Several Captains posted historic efforts in throwing events as the Christopher Newport track & field teams wrapped up the Dan Stimson Memorial Invitational on Saturday at William & Mary's Zable Stadium and Stimson Throwing Field.
In the men's shot put,
Seth Morris and
Daniel Young both chipped in with all-time top-10 performances. Making his outdoor debut, Morris landed a 14.96-meter heave, which moved him to sixth in school history. Young also added the 10th-longest throw by a Captain after launching a 14.33-meter effort.
On the women's side,
Katie Stevens climbed the charts in the shot put as well. After an All-American indoor campaign, she kicked off the spring season with a 12.14-meter toss. That established a new PR and marked the eighth-best mark in program history.
Rounding out her afternoon, Stevens also placed second in the hammer (48.59 meters) and fourth in the discus (37.83 meters). Meanwhile,
Dante Ntiganzwa was the runner-up in the men's hammer (47.23 meters),
Bradshaw Morrison came in second in the javelin (43.37 meters), and
Latrell Fomby was third in the discus (43.45 meters).
Among other top performers in field events,
Jessica Hendricks was sixth in the women's high jump (1.33 meters), and
Leo Brennan finished eighth in the men's long jump (6.07 meters).
Christopher Newport also had several top-finishers on the track. For the men,
Daniel Ferrante came in third in the 800 with a 1:55.34 mark, while
Langley Forte was seventh in the 100 (11.50). Additionally,
David Keroack placed eighth in the 400 (52.51),
Luke Hawkins was 11th in the 1500 (4:13.69), and
Clayton Rankin matched that finish in the 3000 (9:26.73). Keroack, Brennan,
Eli Wilson, and
Kevin Farnsworth also joined forces on a fifth-place showing in the 4x400-relay (3:27.07).
For the women,
Jayla Marable came in fifth in the 400-hurdles (1:13.46),
Didi Dasilva was seventh in the 800 (2:28.41), and
Julia Kapp completed the 3000 in 11:38.94, which placed her 14th in the field. Marable also teamed up with Hendricks,
Alex Guzman, and
Elizabeth Lacombe on a second-place finish in the 4x100-relay (53.35).
CNU will continue the outdoor campaign on March 30 when the Captains host the Blue & Silver Challenge at TowneBank Stadium.
