ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Capping off the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Christopher Newport standout
CJ Reeders tied for 12th in the nation in the triple jump during the title meet on Saturday afternoon at the Polisseni Track and Field Complex in Rochester, New York.
During the meet, the fourth-year phenom landed a distance of 14.55 meters, which placed him 12th in the field. That marked his top effort since winning the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Championship with a 14.82-meter showing on May 7.
After opening Saturday with a 13.85-meter leap on his initial attempt, Reeders vaulted up the leaderboard on his third and final trip down the runway. Entering the third series of jumps in 15th place, the Quinton, Virginia native jumped three spots and settled into his final position with his 14.55-meter effort.
Saturday's action wrapped up a stellar spring for Reeders. He was celebrated as the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Meet after claiming league crowns in the triple jump and long jump. He also ran the lead leg on the victorious 4x100-relay.
Eventually, Reeders finished the year ranked third in the NCAA South Region in the triple jump before placing 12th at the national meet.
In his career, Reeders is a two-time All-American in the triple jump. He placed eighth in the event during the indoor championships earlier this year after coming in seventh at the 2021 outdoor competition.
Along with Reeders,
Daniel Fox represented Christopher Newport in the 100 during the NCAA Championships on Friday evening. The junior sprinter eventually came in 17th after crossing the line in 10.66.
