ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Polishing off his first career appearance on the national stage, Christopher Newport sprinter
Daniel Fox finished 17th in the 100-meters at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday evening at the Polisseni Track and Field Complex in Rochester, New York.
During the race, the third-year speedster crossed the line in 10.66, which placed him 17th in the country. That clocking also marked the fastest by a Captain at the NCAA Championships. Previously, Greg Boothe threw down a time of 10.78 at the 1998 competition.
Overall, Fox was the eighth standout in program history to compete in the 100-meters at the national meet. He joined a decorated contingent headlined by Boothe, Calvin Bunch, Russell Waller, and Ryan Scott, who all secured All-American nods in the event.
His appearance on Friday capped off a sensational spring for the Alexandria, Virginia native. During the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic on April 15, Fox set a school record in the 100 after clocking in at 10.42. That performance also was the fastest in the NCAA South Region during the year.
Along with his work in Lynchburg last month, Fox also won the league title in the 100 while anchoring the squad's victorious 4x100-relay at the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Championships.
On Saturday, Christopher Newport will conclude the NCAA Championships when
CJ Reeders competes for national supremacy in the men's triple jump. Action begins at 1 p.m.
