MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. -- CJ Reeders captured the triple jump at the Mount Olive First Chance Qualifier to headline the Christopher Newport track & field program's busy Saturday as the Captains competed in a pair of meets to kick off the weekend.
During the competition in North Carolina, Reeders landed a distance of 14.54 meters. That placed him first in the field by over a foot and established a new season-best for the third-year star. It also pushed him to 22nd on the national leaderboard this year.
Along with Reeders,
Jack Armel came in fourth in the pole vault after topping 4.40 meters, while
Daniel Fox finished the 100 in 10.76. On the women's side,
Adrianna DeSantis was fourth overall in the 400 after crossing the line in 59.13.
Meanwhile, in Virginia,
Kaitlyn Ardrey represented the Captains during the IC4A - ECAC Championships at William & Mary. During the meet, the senior took part in the 10,000 and led all Division III competitors with a time of 37:08.56. That clocking also placed her 11th overall in a field littered with Division I standouts.
Christopher Newport will return to action on Sunday when the Captains take part in the VCU Final Qualifier in Richmond and the UMO Final Qualifier in Mount Olive.
