Adrianna DeSantis and Daniel Ferrante Sweep Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week Awards

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Adrianna DeSantis and Daniel Ferrante swept the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week honors after piecing together several impressive efforts during a busy weekend for the Christopher Newport track & field teams.

The weekly award was the second straight for DeSantis after she was previously celebrated for her efforts on February 1. Meanwhile, Ferrante earned the honor for the first time in his career.

During the Richard Drake Invitational on Sunday, DeSantis lit up the track with several top-flight performances at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. In the 60, the fourth-year star posted a time of 8.06, which marked the top clocking by any Division III runner at the competition. It also established a new PR and was the fastest mark by anyone in the conference this season.

Along with her work in the 60, DeSantis also set a new personal-best in the 400 after crossing the line in 59.58. Adjusted for track size, her converted time of 1:00.38 places her first in the league by over three seconds. It also stands second in the entire NCAA South Region.

In addition to ranking first in the conference in both the 60 and 400, the Mohegan Lake, New York native also boasts the league's top clocking in the 200 after finishing in 26.86 at the Vince Brown Invitational last month.

While DeSantis was dominating in the sprints, Ferrante was excelling over longer distances. On Saturday, he kicked off his week with an appearance at the Camel City Invitational in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Competing in the mile, he registered the fastest time by a Division III competitor after completing the race in 4:20.59. That cut seven seconds off his previous PR and matched the top mark in the conference this year.

On Sunday, Ferrante continued his award-winning week at the Richard Drake Invitational. Running in the 800, he captured a victory after crossing the line in 1:57.53. Adjusted for track size, his converted time of 1:59.21 ranks second on the league leaderboard this year and stands as a new indoor PR.

In addition to ranking first in the conference in the mile and second in the 800, the Sterling, Virginia native also ran the anchor leg on Christopher Newport's top Distance Medley Relay last month. Together, that foursome stands first in the league with an adjusted time of 10:48.79.

The Christopher Newport track & field teams will return to action on Friday for the start of the VMI Indoor Classic in Lexington, Virginia.
