FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Following a terrific showcase at the Captains Invitational on Saturday, Christopher Newport swept the Coast-to-Coast Conference Track & Field Athlete of the Week honors as Daniel Fox and Logan Funk were celebrated as the league's top track standouts, while Abigail Honeycutt and Amir Siders were honored for their work in field events.
 
The weekly honor is the third of Fox's decorated career and his second of the season. Additionally, Siders was previously recognized for his efforts on February 10, 2020, and Funk is a four-time weekly honoree for her performance on the cross country squad. Meanwhile, the award marked the first of Honeycutt's tenure.
 
Leading the way on the track, Fox jumped up the national leaderboard in the 60 with his performance on Saturday. During the race, he won the finals with a 6.94 clocking. That moved him to 24th in the nation this year and marked the fastest time by anyone in the league since 2017. It also bumped him to ninth on the program's all-time performance list.
 
Equally impressive on Saturday, Siders also added his name to the school's all-time charts in the weight throw. On his fifth attempt, he unleashed a 14.82-meter heave. That moved him to eighth in school history and topped his previous PR by over two feet. It also marked the longest throw by a Captain since 2018.
 
Making her mark in the throwing events as well, Honeycutt took over the conference lead in the shot put with her effort on Saturday. In the event, she uncorked an 11.32-meter toss, which stands as the top performance in the conference by over nine inches. She also established a new PR in the weight throw with an 11.08-meter launch. That shattered her previous mark by over six feet.
 
Rounding out the decorated contingent, Funk starred in the mile on Saturday. During the race, the reigning Coast-to-Coast Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Year bested the field with a time of 5:24.22. That moved her to 45th on the national charts and cut over a second off her previous PR. Her clocking also stands as the fastest in the league this season by over six seconds.
 
Christopher Newport will return to action on Saturday when the Captains head to Lexington, Virginia for the first day of the VMI Keydet Invitational.
