GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Sophomore Carrter Morris tied for third after carding the finest 36-hole performance of his career at the 2021 O'Briant Jensen Memorial in Greensboro, leading Christopher Newport to a second place finish as a team. Morris tied with classmate Aidan Baron on day two for a pair of team-best 75's to lead the Captains to a +30 performance as a group in the two-day event. 

Christopher Newport followed up a strong first round 292 with a 306 on day two for a 36-hole total of 598. The Cardinal by Pete Dye course played more difficult on Tuesday with the 306 still being tied for the second lowest round of the day and the seventh finest showing in the 44 completed rounds overall. CNU captured a second-place effort out of 22 teams competing while trailing tournament champions Methodist by just nine strokes. 

On the individual leaderboard, Morris climbed two spots to tie for third for a career-best performance. He fired an Even par 71 on the first day and followed it up with a four-over 75 on day two. He tied Methodist's Andre Chi for third place and the pair trailed only Methodist's Cooper Hrabak and N.C. Wesleyan's Frankie Schmitt. 

Morris registered 24 pars and five birdies in the 36-hole event for 29 holes at par or better. He stayed even after the first nine holes with one birdie and one bogey  and added five more pars on the back. A tough triple on the 196-yard Par 3 12th knocked him out of the running for individual medalist honors, but he rebounded with three straight pars and added a birdie on 17 to close with a four-over 75. 

Matching his performance on day two, Baron raced up the individual leaderboard and into a tie for 18th after two days. Following the first round, Baron's seven-over score was tied for 43rd; with a four-over finish on Tuesday he vaulted 25 spots into a top-20 finish. He birdied twice on the front nine, including a three on the 301-yard Par 4 third hole and on the 400-yard Par 4 sixth. He then ran off six straight birdies before late trouble saw him slide back to a 75. His third under par hole came on the 188-yard Par 3 16th hole as the sophomore finished the tournament with five total birdies. 

Also moving up the leaderboard 12 spots on day two was junior Robb Kinder, who signed for a matching 77 on the second day. He finished the 36-hole event in 154 strokes (77-77) after navigating the course with minimal damage. He led the team with 25 pars, including a run of nine straight on Tuesday. He added a birdie on 14, a 427-yard Par 4, and finished the tournament tied for 25th. 

Rounding out the countable scores for the Captains on Tuesday was rookie Jackson Gessaman with a 79. He improved his first round score by two strokes and contributed an important finish with a par on the difficult finishing hole, a 458-yard Par 4. With Gessaman's par, the Captains held off ninth-ranked Greensboro by one stroke to hold sole possession of second place. 

Playing as an individual, rookie Michael Thomas also finished in the top 25 for the Captains with a 12-over 154 (77-77). He sank five birdies in the two-day event including three in Tuesday's final round. Thomas kicked off his round with a birdie on 10 and added under hole pars on 15 and four. Owen Cook (+16) tied for 43rd and also birdied 10 while picking up another bird on the 412-yard Par 4 seventh. 

Alex Price (+8) finished with the seventh top-ten effort of his career by finishing with a 150 (66-84). He led the Captains in total birdies with six while also adding one of just seven Eagles scored in the event. 

Christopher Newport closes out the fall portion of their schedule with the O'Briant Jensen Memorial and will return to action in the Spring at the Savannah Invitational on March 7-8.
