Longtime Captain Daulton Teaford Heads Overseas for Head Coaching Position with Track & Field Program in India

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Following an accomplished career as both an All-American athlete and assistant coach at Christopher Newport, Daulton Teaford will continue his professional career overseas as the longtime Captain has accepted a head coaching position with the Corvuss American Academy in India.

The Corvuss American Academy is an international boarding school founded upon the ideals of integrated learning. Based in Karjat, the institution combines academics, elite athletics, and life-skills training while developing student-athletes on its state-of-the-art campus.

Joining Corvuss as its head track & field coach, Teaford spent four years as an assistant coach with the Captains. During that time, he worked directly with the sprinters while also lending a hand in the strength & conditioning department. He played a crucial role in continuing Christopher Newport's championship-level success in the Capital Athletic Conference, including a sweep of the 2020 indoor men's and women's league titles. For that work, Teaford and his fellow coaches were named the 2020 CAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Coaching Staff of the Year.

In addition to his professional work with the Captains, he also completed a prestigious internship with ALTIS, a world-renowned organization focused on elite training and sport performance on a global scale.

Prior to his time as a coach, Teaford was a decorated member of the Captains during a standout career as a student-athlete. From 2011-15, he established himself as one of the nation's top sprinters while earning a pair of All-American honors. The Boyce, Virginia native placed fourth in the 200 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in 2015 after coming in fifth in the event as a sophomore in 2013.

Currently, Teaford still ranks third on the program's all-time performance list in the outdoor 200 (21.26) and fourth in the indoor event (22.08). He also stands among the top-10 in the indoor 60, 400, and heptathlon as well as the outdoor 100 and 400.
