WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Christopher Newport track & field teams opened up their Massachusetts swing with an appearance at the Williams Final Qualifier on Wednesday evening at the Lee Family Track.
During the competition,
Zoe Stauffer finished second in the javelin after uncorking a 39.63-meter toss, which stands as the second-best throw in program history. In other field events on the women's side,
Sarah Johnson posted the meet's top throw in the discus (42.02 meters), while
Peyton Blanding came in fourth in the pole vault after eclipsing 3.27 meters.
The men's field athletes were led by
Sam Johnson, who fired a 12.89-meter heave in the shot put, and
Allan Pedin, who topped 4.28 meters in the pole vault.
Brandon Berry led all track athletes with a second-place showing in the men's 200 after crossing in 22.31. Meanwhile,
Kurt Waller came in third in the 400 (48.69), while
Adam Wosahla matched that finish in the 800 (1:55.19). On the women's side,
Adrianna DeSantis was third in the 200 (27.63) and fourth in the 400 (1:00.39), and
Logan Funk led the team in the 1500 after coming in fourth (4:52.09).
Hannah Bowden also finished fifth in the prelims of the 100-hurdles after crossing in 15.25.
Christopher Newport will return to action on Thursday when the Captains cap off their New England expedition at the MIT Final Qualifier. The competition is slated to start at 5 p.m.
