NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Zoe Stauffer wrapped up the Captains Classic & Combined Events with an excellent performance in the heptathlon on Sunday afternoon to close out the two-day meet, which was hosted at POMOCO Stadium.
Â
During the competition, Stauffer registered a score of 4,138 in the heptathlon, which placed her second in the field. That total also vaulted her to sixth on the program's all-time performance list and marked the top effort in the South / Southeast Region this year.
Â
"Zoe continued her outstanding debut in the heptathlon with a big season best in the long jump, a massive PR in the javelin, and her fastest 800 to finish the day on the CNU all-time list for the heptathlon," said head coach
Tyler Wingard.
Â
Closing out the competition on Sunday, Stauffer notched the meet's finest effort in the javelin after unleashing a 36.21-meter heave. She also added a 4.81-meter showing in the long jump and a 2:38.81 clocking in the 800.
Â
Along with her work on Sunday, Stauffer also shined in the first four disciplines during the first day of action. The sophomore won the high jump after eclipsing 1.50 meters. She also added the top throw in the shot put with a 10.02-meter toss. Meanwhile, on the track, the Spring Grove, Pennsylvania native cruised to a time of 16.02 in the 100-hurdles and 28.60 in the 200.
Â
Her performance over the weekend continued a strong campaign for the second-year standout. Over the winter, she also added her name to the program's all-time performance list in the pentathlon after notching a score of 2,677. That stands as the 10th-best mark in school history and earned her All-Region recognition.
Â
Stauffer and her teammates will return to action on May 3 for the start of the CAC Outdoor Championships, which will be hosted at POMOCO Stadium.
