Kurt Waller Named CAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Kurt Waller has been named the Capital Athletic Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week following a solid showing for Christopher Newport during the Dr. Jack Toms Invitational on Saturday at the University of Lynchburg.

During the meet, Waller won the 400 and 4x400-relay while vaulting up the national leaderboard in both of those events as well as the 200.

The weekly honor is Waller's second this year. He was previously celebrated for his work during the indoor campaign on February 12.

Headlining his performance on Saturday, Waller registered a victory in the 400. During the race, he crossed the line in 48.89. That clocking ranks fifth in the NCAA this year and stands as the top mark in the conference by nearly a full second.

Along with his triumph in the 400, the third-year speedster also threw down a time of 22.10 in the 200. That also ranks first in the CAC this season and places him 22nd in the country.

In addition to his individual efforts, Waller ran the anchor leg on the squad's victorious 4x400-relay. He eventually helped lead the foursome to a time of 3:24.74, which sits 13th on the national leaderboard.

So far this year, Waller has stockpiled awards. Along with his weekly honors, he was a first-team All-Conference selection in the indoor 200 and 400 after walking away with CAC titles in both events. He also nabbed All-Region plaudits for his work in the 400 and DMR.

Waller and the rest of his teammates will return to action on Saturday when Christopher Newport hosts the Blue & Silver Challenge at POMOCO Stadium.
