Throwers Cap Off Colonial Relays with Solid Showing on Saturday at William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- 
Wrapping up the Colonial Relays on Saturday, four Captains took part in throwing events to round out a strong weekend by the Christopher Newport track & field teams at William & Mary's Zable Stadium and Stimson Throwing Area.

In the discus, three Captains registered top-10 efforts on Saturday. Brendon Burrows finished second on the men's side with a 48.64-meter heave, while Sarah Johnson was third in the women's discipline after unleashing a 40.38-meter toss. After establishing a new program record in the hammer throw on Friday, Legend Hayes capped off his weekend with a 43.38-meter effort in the discus. That placed him ninth in the field.

Meanwhile, Johnson and Hannah Shoemaker also took part in the women's shot put on Saturday. Shoemaker finished sixth in the Championship division after posting a 13.30-meter toss. Johnson added a fifth-place showing in the University division with an 11.69-meter mark.

Overall, the men finished 14th in the final team standings at the Colonial Relays after collecting 26 points. The women placed 32nd overall with nine points.

Christopher Newport will return to action on April 13 with the Bucknell Bison Classic in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.
