WAVERLY, Iowa -- Christopher Newport's Ryan Scott advanced to the 100-meter finals at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships after the sophomore speedster placed eighth in the prelims of the event on Friday evening at Wartburg's Walston-Hoover Stadium in Waverly, Iowa.

Racing in the first heat, Scott posted a time of 10.69, which marked the fastest wind-legal clocking of all-time for the Glen Allen native. That effort eventually placed him fourth in his heat and eighth overall, earning him a spot in the 100 finals.

The championship race will take place on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT. Live video will be available at NCAA.com. A direct link can be found at the top of this release.

In the finals, Scott will face a familiar foe in Penn State Harrisburg's Anthony Simpson, who qualified first with a stadium-record time of 10.40 in the prelims. The two Capital Athletic Conference rivals will be joined in the finals by Jamal Watkins (Birmingham Southern - 10.41), Nicodemus Gambill (Utica - 10.51), Parker Witt (Wisconsin-Whitewater - 10.63), Ernest Winters (Wisconsin-La Crosse - 10.64), Manni Egbujor (Augsburg - 10.64), and Katakyie Ofori-Atta (Williams - 10.66).

Scott is the first Captain to reach the 100 finals at the NCAA Championships since Leroy Harper, Jr. accomplished the feat during his junior campaign in 2008. Greg Boothe is the last sprinter to earn All-American honors in the event after finishing sixth during the 1998 championships.

Competing at the NCAA meet for the second straight year, Scott has already collected All-Conference and All-Region honors during both the indoor and outdoor campaigns this season.
